U.S. Supreme Court Ruling Changes State Tax Laws
Thursday, February 21, 2019
As an Illinois-based business, Hawk Labs has always been required by law to collect sales tax for Illinois transactions. Due to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year, the law now requires companies, including Hawk Labs, to begin assessing and collecting sales tax for transactions shipping to the following states: Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Washington.
Beginning March 1, 2019, Hawk Labs will implement the process of adding the appropriate sales tax (based on zip code) to each invoice that is shipping into one of these states. As Hawk Labs becomes responsible to collect sales tax for additional states (e.g., California beginning April 1, 2019), we will commence charging the appropriate sales tax.
